The spread of Islam from mid 14th to 16th century

Islam came to China by two routes. That from southeastern Asia by sea was at first the more important. The extent of the Muslim communities in coastal Fujian by the 14th century. The second influx, overland from the Islamic northwest, proved of more lasting significance.

Muslims uprisings against Han rule both in the 18th-centruy an in the 19th.(See maps on pages 41 and 149.)
